Janay Alston, a Milwaukee native, has always expressed a strong passion for social justice with the Black community; which is why she returned home after completing her graduate degree at The Ohio State University in 2010. Following God’s guidance, her career path (back to Milwaukee) led her to UW-Whitewater where she worked for 8 years. There her roles included serving as a Academic Advisor, Faculty Advisor for the Black Student Union, History and Social Work Adjunct Instructor, organizing international student trips to South Africa, coordinating the Pathway for Success Program, and operating as the Director of Recruitment and Retention Programs for the College of Education and Professional Studies. Today, as the Director of Counseling and Advising at Milwaukee Area Technical College, Janay continues to strive for social equity, personal empowerment, and student advocacy; remaining true to Gandhi’s message, “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
