Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program) The Academic Advising Center and Career Services, home of the Pre-Health Student Resource Center, is a team of educators who advise, encourage, challenge, and support students in their academic planning and career development. Job Summary The Academic Advisor engages students in decision-making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements. Helps undeclared students to explore majors and minors. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, proactive, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. May assist with training and mentoring of peer advisors and graduate students. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required by start date
  • Experience in advising, teaching, or direct student support.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in using office software packages and email
  • Ability to share complex information in a clear and organized manner in both verbal and written forms to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with students and knowledge of approaches to student development
  • Experience fostering and promoting the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field by start date
  • Experience advising college students on academic and career related concerns
  • Ability to prioritize and utilize good time management practices
  • Ability to be thorough, consistent, and accurate in the interpretation of policies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student records systems
