The Director of Academic Advising and Success is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Retention. The individual will work as a team member in a fast-paced environment focused on providing excellent customer service and support to all students across the University. The director is a key leader in promoting and supporting multiple institutional plans, strategies and activities related to academic advising, retention, academic success and graduation. The director will provide leadership, oversight and strategic planning around initiatives aimed at achieving our institutional mission, strategic plan and within the Student Success Framework.

The director will work collaboratively with colleagues within Academic Affairs and Students Affairs, in order to plan, develop, coordinate and assess various college-wide advising, retention and academic success efforts. Collaboration will be necessary to ensure consistent and effective delivery of high quality and coordinated services to all students. The director will participate in or lead campus committees where academic advising and academic success is an important factor.

The director oversees and provides leadership in guiding the campus-wide academic advising model forward. The director will be responsible for providing leadership and management to the Academic Advising and Exploration Center, as well as providing additional leadership of campus wide advising and student success best practices within our undergraduate programs. The director will also supervise and/or provide leadership to the Assistant/Associate Director(s), the Coordinator of Academic Standards, and EAB Navigation. The director will be responsible for the departmental budget and will complete all trainings as required for the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree
2. Five years of experience in an advising center or academic success related area in a comprehensive community college or university
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and motivate personnel
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the academic advising functions and best practices
5. Demonstrated knowledge of factors and strategies that influence student success
6. Demonstrated knowledge of the planning, implementation and monitoring of budgets in an educational environment
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and effectively present information to university administration, public groups, and other interested parties
Knowledge of FERPA and other privacy laws and regulations

The Academic Advising and Exploration Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Coordinator of Academic Standards & Programming (Retention Specialist, AE107).

This position coordinates the programming for reinstated and students on probation; serves as the Chair of the Academic Standards Committee, administers the duties and functions related to Academic Standards; assists with the management of students participating in the Early College Credit Program; and coordinates the administrative aspects of advising during SOAR. The coordinator serves as a liaison to campus offices/departments and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree required (by the start date).
2. Four years of academic advising or similar experience in a higher education setting (professional advising preferred).
3. Experience developing and administering support programming for students.
4. Progression of experiences, duties, and responsibilities on a college campus.
5. Commitment to a student-centered approach.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar Student Information System highly preferred.
2. Knowledge of EAB Navigate highly preferred.
3. Demonstration of excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
