The College of Letters and Science at UW-Milwaukee has more than 1200 faculty, academic staff, and university employees in 25 academic departments and a variety of centers, facilities, administrative units, and interdepartmental academic programs. Job Summary: The Assistant Dean for Student Success and Academic Services is responsible for oversight and management of L&S Academic Advising and student-related functions. The Assistant Dean provides overall management, planning, administration, and evaluation of advising programs, services, personnel, policies, procedures, facilities, and budgets. Working collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, department chairpersons, and program directors, the Assistant Dean ensures high quality and student-centered approaches to the delivery of services. The Assistant Dean also monitors overall student success patterns in the College, identifies curricular or other challenges that limit student progress to degree, and collaborates with the Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, and undergraduate directors/coordinators to find solutions to these issues. The Assistant Dean represents the College on internal and external committees and serves on the College senior leadership team. The position works with other campus departments to foster a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive of a diverse student population. The individual in this position is expected to exercise discretion, respect, diplomacy, and good judgment in handling difficult or sensitive situations.
1. Must have a BA/BS degree
2. A minimum of five years of experience in academic advising or related student-success oriented role
1. Prior leadership in academic advising or other student-success oriented role
2. Graduate/continuing education in advising, student counseling, or educational leadership
3. Supervisory experience
