President's Welcome

Greetings and welcome to the WACADA website!

WACADA is gearing up for the 2014 WACADA Conference, “Collaborative Advising: Better Together”, to be held September 18-19 at UW-Eau Claire.  Thanks to Kim Wellnitz, and her planning committee for making preparations for the next conference.  Please consider submitting a proposal to present at the annual conference.  Proposals are due July 18, 2014.

In addition to the upcoming conference, there are several other opportunities in the organization.  We have a couple of board positions that will become available this summer (President-Elect, Vice President of Programs).  Please don’t hesitate to contact any of the WACADA Board members if you have questions about these open positions.

Are you interested in helping WACADA coordinate a Winter Professional Development workshop as a campus/regional representative?  We hosted two very successful workshops this winter at Marian University and UW-Stout.  Thanks to the leadership provided by Teri Durkin, Janay Alston, Angie Swenson-Holzinger, Celene Frey, and Jessica Wekkin, WACADA was able to reach a large audience of members and non-members to discuss current trends in academic advising in a very low-cost format.  Lastly, we’d love to hear what you’re doing on your campuses, perhaps a recent program you developed, research you may be working on within the field of advising, or stories about your experience in WACADA or NACADA.   Consider submitting an article for our summer newsletter as a “Member Spotlight”.   Check out the “Member Spotlight” in the spring newsletter for ideas to get you started!

If you are new to the WACADA website, please consider becoming a member.  The cost is minimal at $15 and provides you with membership benefits, such as access to the online directory and an opportunity to apply for advising grants.

Please feel free to contact me or any of the members of the Executive board if you have questions or would like to learn more about WACADA.  You can reach us at wacada@wacada.org

Be well,

Kami Weis, 2013-2014 WACADA President
